Emily Tamez has been selected as the 2022-2023 Zarrow Teacher of the Year!
One of her nominators said: "Emily Tamez is an exceptional kindergarten teacher that holds high standards for her students both behaviorally and academically. She is committed to holding her students accountable and pushing them to do their best even on their worst days. My son comes home everyday excited to share his learning in the Spanish language!"
This is Emily's 12th year at Zarrow where she teaches kindergarten Spanish immersion.
"There is a lot to love about being a teacher but one of my favorite things is that I get to help students start their bilingual journey," said Emily. "I love seeing my students’ faces when the Spanish starts to click and the learning starts falling into place. Being bilingual is an amazing gift!"
Emily said she loves reading and singing with her students in Spanish.
"Reading opens the doors to many worlds and brings many conversations and opportunities for sharing. Singing builds self-confidence, engages their emotions, builds vocabulary and language skills and so much more!"
